Welcome
Welcome to Fernweh nubians. We are a small herd of purebred nubians and several saanens in Southern Minnesota focusing on conformation, milking ability, and wonderful personalities. These girls and boys not only do well in the show ring and the milk parlor, they are great companions that love people and are a joy to be around every day.
Fernweh started out in 2003 under a different herd name and with a different breed, lamanchas, as a 4-H project. I quickly fell in love with dairy goats and their quirky, personable, and loving selves and started showing not only in 4-H but in open shows as well. Then in 2007, I got my first nubians, an american doe and her two kids, and became enamored with the breed, eventually selling out of the lamanchas to focus on the nubians after I shipped my first purebred nubians in from Lakeshore in 2008. Over the years we have tried several other breeds in addition to the nubians and have settled on saanens finally in 2019.
As we worked to better our herd, we realized the need to utilize performance programs that show our improvement and give us a clear path forward in our breeding. In 2019, we started on DHIR. LA did not work out in 2020, but we are excited to add that data in 2021. We are part of ADGA Plus, though no LA this year, and happy to contribute to the betterment of the breed. All nubians are G6S tested normal, bucks are casein tested and DNA typed, and we are working on DNA typing the does as well. We hope to one day have all bucks and does not only DNA typed but also casein tested so that those trusting in our genetics have all the information available to them from our herd.
Our herd is annually CAE and Johnes tested negative and no CL on the farm.
Thank you for your interest in Fernweh nubians. Please contact us with any questions.
